What Crew opportunities are available to me when I graduate?
Follow the sun from October to April in the Caribbean, or Florida with its' all year round season, and if you feel like a bit of European summer from May onwards, then hop over to the Mediterranean.
The International Yachtmaster Training Career placement Division offers graduates the opportunity to find employment on the world's most prestigious yachts. Pre Requisites to enter the Yachtmaster Training Courses
As you move along with the Fastrak course, you will have achieved the qualifications necessary for entry into the International Yachtmaster Coastal International Yachtmaster Offshore or Australian Yachtmaster certificates
- You must be 18 years of age
- Hold these certificates & sailing experience by the exam date
Certifications are endorsed and issued by the International Yachtmaster Training Inc. for all inshore and commercial courses, International Yachtmaster Coastal, International Yachtmaster Offshore tickets and the STCW95 modules. Yachting Australia endorse the Australian Yachtmaster certification.
Location of Sailing
All practical inshore sail training will be sailed within the waterways of the Pittwater and the lower Hawkesbury region. This waterway is flanked by the Kuringai National Park boasting lush green sub tropical vegetation and secluded sandy beaches. For more details on the cruising area click here.
All offshore milebuilders will sail from Pittwater north or south along the east coast of New South Wales .
Location of shore based training
The shorebased theory will be trained at the Superyacht Crew Academy's training facility at Newport.
Accommodation and meals
Accommodation and delicious healthy meals during the onboard sail training and milebuilders are included in the fastrak course. Meals during leisure time are at your own expense.
During the shore based training, accommodation at the Sydney Beachouse at Collaroy is included in the course price.

- Training on a yacht either sail or power with all the latest navigational and safety equipment.
- Gaining the ability and confidence to skipper a boat in inshore and coastal waters.
- Expanding your knowledge and learn to sail a vessel in a safe and seamanlike manner from an experienced International Yachtmaster accredited instructor.
Professional Captain's Course Syllabus & Itinerary
International Crew - 5 day
Welcome to your first day. After meeting your professional instructor and crew mates, you will be briefed and made to feel comfortable onboard the yacht, your home for the next 5 days. After a full orientation by your Yachtmaster instructor, you will set sail into the magnificent waterways of Pittwater. The focus will be on practical sailing during daylight and night hours, points of sail, steering, sail trimming, reefing, man overboard, practical boat handling, safety, theory, tender boat driving and lots more.
International Bareboat Captain/Skipper - 5 day
Moving into your second week, you will be learning theory combined with practical sailing onboard and ashore. You will take command as a skipper and accepting responsibilities associated with pre departure checks, victualling, passage planning, vessel handling skills, knots and splicing, machinery and system checks, tides and currents, dealing with adverse weather conditions, picking up moorings, anchoring and coming alongside marinas and jetties. Night sailing & navigation, navigation and pilotage are practiced along with crew management and basic leadership skills.
Inshore & Coastal Navigation Theory - 3 day
3 days will be spent in a shorebased learning environment. You will be taught all inshore and coastal theory with a strong emphasis on navigation and pilotage, including taking and plotting fixes, dead reckoning, lights and lighthouses, tides, collision regulations, estimated positions and courses to steer, passage planning, and meteorology.
Diesel Engine workshop - 1 day
A hands on full day of learning about the principles of the engine and the boat's systems. We will take you through the cooling system, salt and fresh water, steering, gearbox and drive systems, learn how to bleed the fuel lines and change filters, electrical and basic maintenance to keep the systems in working order, recommended tools and spare parts onboard, and how to diagnose and deal with simple faults.
VHF Radio Operators licence - 1 day
This full day course and exam will enable you to attain your VHF radio operator's licence. This workshop includes the licence application which forms a compulsory component of your International Yachtmaster certification.
STCW95 - 5 day
All crew involved in any safety or muster on commercial vessels must complete the STCW95 course. The course covers 4 modules, including sea survival, first aid, fire fighting and personal and social responsibilities. An internationally recognized certificate is issued approved by the MCA. This course is also a compulsory component of your International Yachtmaster certification.
Offshore Milebuilder - 12 day
Offshore milebuilders are specific nautical sea mile builders to help you gain further experience and confidence for pre entry into the International Yachtmaster courses. This 12 day passage will explore parts of the magnificent Australian coastline and ocean, under the professional tuition of your Yachtmaster instructor, with 24 hour sailing and watchkeeping.
International Yachtmaster Coastal Course & Exam - 6 day Power or Sail
You have now reached the pinnacle of your fastrak course. This 6 day liveaboard course with a practical assessment and exam, covering all subjects on navigation, tides and currents, colregs, pilotage, weather and forecasting, anchoring, berthing, buoyage, safety, passage planning and seamanship. After successful completion, you will be awarded with one the most highly recognized certificates, worldwide.
Offshore Leadership Program Milebuilder - 5 day
This 5 day leadership sailing program will teach you the dynamics of leadership as a captain/skipper and dealing with all aspects of crew harmony. Including confrontation, communication, delegation of safety and emergency issues, respect, self confidence and decision making. Offshore milebuilders are specific nautical sea mile builders to help you gain further experience for entry into the International Yachtmaster Offshore course. This 5 day passage will explore parts of the magnificent Australian coastline and ocean, under the professional tuition of your Yachtmaster instructor, with 24 hour sailing and watchkeeping.
Offshore Milebuilder - 12 day
Offshore milebuilders are specific nautical sea mile builders to help you gain further experience and confidence for pre entry into the International Yachtmaster courses. This 12 day passage will explore parts of the magnificent Australian coastline and ocean, under the professional tuition of your Yachtmaster instructor, with 24 hour sailing and watchkeeping.
International Yachtmaster Offshore Theory & Practical - 12 days
Providing you have reached your sea miles for pre entry into this commercial certificate course, this 12 day course includes 6 full days of shorebased theory, covering navigation, tidal calculations, colregs, pilotage, meteorology, anchoring, berthing, buoyage, safety, passage planning, general ship knowledge and seamanship. 5 days liveaboard with practical training, covering seamanship skills, nautical terms, tides, marlinespike seamanship, anchoring, boat handling, docking, weather, navigation and passage planning. You will then undergo a 1 day practical examination for assessment for your certification.
