Masterclass5.

Master up to 24m NC

The Master up to 24m Near Coastal Certificate III in Maritime Opertions (Master Class 5) training programme will enable you to crew to a rank of Captain on Australian Registered commercial vessels up to 24m long, operating in the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Australia has changed from the state-based certification to a National Certification. The previous certifications Master Class 5, Skipper Grade 3, Master Class5/Skipper Grade 3, Master Class V (Trading), Master Class V (Fishing) and Master Class 5 (Trading and Fishing) now all come under the Master under 24 m NC national system.

Every commercial vessel licensed to operate in Australian waters needs the ‘skipper’ or person in charge to hold a Certificate of Competency issued by the Roads and Maritime Services' (RMS) Maritime Division.

The Master up to 24 m NC course at Superyacht Crew Academy provides the required theory and practical training to complete all the units for the Maritime Training Package MAR30913 - Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal). At the completion of training, candidates must sit an oral examination with a National Regulator approved examiner to complete the Certificate of Competency.

In addition to the theory and practical training provided in the Superyacht Crew Academy Master up to 24m NC course, applicants must log a number of hours working on vessels at sea and keep a log book recording each voyage.

One of the major benefits of taking your Master up to 24m Near Coastal training with the Superyacht Crew Academy is that while you are completing the modules for the Master up to 24m NC certification you can simultaneously obtain an internationally recognised IYT Master of Yachts 200gt (limited) offshore certification. The IYT certification will enable you to find a position aboard a vessel and earn an excellent salary while building up your sea time for the Master Class V certificate. If you already have the required sea time, applications can be made directly to NSW Roads and Maritime Services on completion of training.

If you already have an IYT Master of Yachts 200gt certificate issued by the Superyacht Crew Academy after 2008 you can take a short bridging course to obtain the Australian Master up to 24m Near Coastal. Click here for more information on the MOY 200ton to Master up to 24m NC Bridging Course
