The Superyacht Crew Academy 12 day Advanced Stewardess and Deckhand course is a complete training package for all entry level roles on board a Superyacht. This course encompasses the entire 10 day Advanced Stewardess course, as well as providing extra practical and theory training in the role of deckhand, that allows you to gain the IYT Superyacht Deck Crew certification. Giving you the theoretical and practical skills necessary to be an active crew member as both a Steward/ess and Deckhand onboard a superyacht, the 12 Day Advanced Stewardess and Deckhand course will ensure students become job ready, as they receive the full range of advanced Stewardessing skills and techniques, write and complete an industry specific resume with the guidance of industry specialists and practice interview roleplays, spend time on a superyacht in Sydney harbour, as well as participate in a variety of practical Deckhand skills such as Superyacht maintenance, watchkeeping and navigational support and docking procedures. Students will also receive further training in both power and sail Superyacht skills, which will increase their opportunities for placement once they graduate.

The 12 day Advanced Stewardess and Deckhand course is specifically designed to set you on your pathway across all Superyachts around this world. This course allows you the freedom to work as a Steward/ess, Deckhand, or both in a combined role on board a Superyacht. This also opens up more employment opportunities, as many of the smaller yachts prefer fewer employees that can work in a number of roles on board. The Superyacht Crew Academy 12 day Advanced Stewardess and Deckhand course will provide you with multiple skills and a professional knowledge of your role onboard as a Superyacht Stewardess, Steward or Deckhand. Successful graduates can confidently accept any Steward/ess, Deckhand or combined assignment on superyachts anywhere in the world. The IYT Professional Superyacht Hospitality certification and MCA Approved IYT Superyacht Deck Crew certification are the only internationally recognised qualification for superyacht interior crews. Your graduation certificates will be accredited by International Yacht Training (IYT) Worldwide, who has recognition with 25 governments across the globe. The RIB tender certificate is approved by the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

In addition, Superyacht Crew Academy is an Australian Nationally Recognised Registered Training Organisation and if you complete the STCW 95 training with us you will also qualify for a ‘Statement of Attainment’ known as the Shipboard Safety Skill Set. This certificate will allow you to work on Australian commercial vessels.

Work Experience before heading overseas

Immediately after the training course, deckhands and steward/ess will have the opportunity to gain work experience face to face with guests. This is a great way to put your newfound skills into play cruising Sydney Harbour and it will be a real bonus for your resume to have your guest service with sea miles logged off by the Captain.

Prerequisites

This is the entry level course for superyacht crew and anyone with a reasonable command of the English language, who is over 18 years old, in good health, and without colour blindness can sign up for the course.

Either before or after you start your Steward/ess and Deckhand training you will need to have completed a six day STCW 95 Basic Safety Course (Standards of Training Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers), that is compulsory for all crew on superyachts.

The STCW 95 gives you the minimum standard of qualification required to work on vessels of any size and equips you with a detailed understanding of what to do in the event of marine emergencies.

Superyacht Crew Academy conducts regular STCW 95 courses in Sydney during which you will study safety and sea survival, first aid and CPR, fire fighting including use of breathing apparatus and personal and social responsibilities and vessel security. A deckhand's duties include keeping the yacht’s exterior and deck equipment clean and exquisitely maintained, assisting in watch keeping and navigational support, guest services and docking procedures.

Other useful qualifications, like SCUBA diving, IT skills, photography, welding, carpentry, metal working, will improve your Superyacht Crew Job prospects and make you a more valuable crew member. Outstanding physical endurance, athletic skills, and a pleasant disposition are important for a career aboard Superyachts.

12 Day Advanced Stewardess and Deckhand Training Course:Most captains require all members of their crew to be able to operate the superyacht tender, to use a VHF radio and to know the basic rules that govern life aboard a ship. The complete training course makes certain you will stand out from other new comers to the industry when you start hunting for a position on a Superyacht, by giving you the skills to work on both the exterior and the interior of the Superyacht. The IYT Professional Superyacht Hospitality certification is the only internationally recognised qualification for Steward/ess’ worldwide, and the IYT Superyacht Deck Crew certification is the only internationally recognised qualification for Deckhands worldwide. Study a number of required skills required to excel in both the Steward/ess and Deckhand role.
