Happy International Day For Women In Maritime 2023

International Day For Women In Maritime is a momentous occasion that allows us to recognise and celebrate the achievements of women in the maritime industry. Superyacht Crew Academy is proud to support this movement and witness an increasing number of women entering the maritime industry.

Traditionally deck roles on superyacht vessels have been predominately male however, times are changing, and women are breaking barriers and making their mark in this industry. In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number of women choosing deck department roles and progressing into bosun, officer & captain roles which is incredible to see this change. We firmly believe that gender should never limit one’s career options or aspirations. We actively encourage women to consider the maritime industry as a viable and fulfilling career path, regardless of the traditionally assigned gender roles.

We understand the importance of creating a supportive environment that empowers women to succeed in their chosen careers. The presence of more women in the superyacht industry brings a multitude of benefits. One of the most significant advantages is diversity. Women bring unique perspectives, fresh ideas, and innovative approaches that enhance collaboration and problem-solving onboard superyachts. In traditionally male-dominated roles, such as deckhands, women are proving their capabilities, skill sets, and commitment to excellence. Their inclusion not only diversifies the workforce but also promotes equality and challenges stereotypes. It enriches the work environment, fostering a culture of mutual respect and equal opportunities for all crew members.

The superyacht industry has seen remarkable women achieving great success and making significant contributions, even in roles historically dominated by men. From female deckhands to those pursuing careers as navigational officers or engineers, women are breaking down barriers and proving their competence and dedication. Their stories serve as a source of inspiration and empowerment for aspiring female crew members who may have hesitated to enter male-dominated roles. Superyacht Crew Academy celebrates these trailblazers, recognizing their achievements and sharing their stories to inspire the next generation of women to join the superyacht industry.
